Discovering Portugal

Latest Review: Vilalara Grand Hotel Algarve

Set above the Atlantic in the Algarve, Vilalara combines beautiful gardens and coastal surroundings with a long-standing thalassotherapy heritage and an extensive spa offering.

During my stay, I explored its treatments, wellness activities and facilities, as well as the wider resort experience. It's a lovely option for those looking for a restorative seaside escape with meaningful wellness experiences, without committing to a fully immersive retreat.

Introducing Our New Partner: EPIC SANA Algarve

I'm pleased to welcome EPIC SANA Algarve to The Wellness Travel Expert's collection of hotel partners.

Set along the Algarve coast, EPIC SANA brings together a beautiful beachside setting, contemporary luxury, an excellent spa and the SAYANNA wellness offering. Its approach is a little different from that of a dedicated wellness retreat. Rather than placing the entire stay around a structured health program, it gives guests the opportunity to combine a luxury resort holiday with wellness experiences, from yoga and fitness to more tailored stays.

I particularly like this style of offering for travellers who want to make wellbeing part of their holiday, but aren't necessarily looking for a clinic-style or highly immersive retreat. It's also worth considering for couples with different ideas about what they want from a holiday, or anyone who would like to explore wellness at their own pace.

Having experienced the property myself, I was impressed by the setting, the spa and, especially, the warmth and attentiveness of the team. I'll also be sharing a more detailed review of EPIC SANA Algarve shortly, including my experience of the hotel, its wellness facilities and the type of stay I'd recommend. Keep an eye out for that in the coming weeks.

Where to Go in 2027?

Planning a wellness escape for next year? I've brought together 12 wellness retreats from around the world, with suggestions for different times of year and a range of wellness interests. From emotional wellbeing in Thailand and active recovery in New Zealand to thalassotherapy in Portugal, the guide explores some of the retreats I would recommend considering throughout 2027.

Feeling Inspired?

Perhaps you've been thinking about taking some time away, exploring a particular wellness program or simply finding somewhere that offers a different pace of life. Whatever has prompted you to consider a wellness escape, I'd be happy to help you work out where to start.

You don't need to have a destination or even a clear idea of what you're looking for. Sometimes it helps to talk through what's important to you and explore what might be possible.
